The ₱10 Store

Move over, Divisoria! As much as I love exploring your grimy labyrinth for basic supplies at an even more basic budget, I found a smaller, less claustrophobic version for my needs.

All hail the ₱10 Store! Also known as U.S.E.’s General Merchadise, this store is located at my hometown Cavite City’s marketplace. They sell school supplies, kitchen utensils, accessories, home decors, toys, party giveaways, stationery, and many other home necessities by the piece or bulk for ₱10 (about $ 0.20).

Need a new mug? They have one for ₱10. Need more pencils for school? Get five for ₱10. While you’re at it, check out the colorful washi tapes for ₱10 a set.

Price check: ₱10 each!

I went on a palengke (market) adventure by myself one afternoon and came across this store located along P. Burgos Avenue. After leaving with a plastic bag full of stuff, I came back the next day with my sister, whose biggest question was, “How in the world do they make money if everything is only ₱10 each?”

We’re guessing they’re China-made products bought by the truckload, and most businessmen in Cavite already own the lot area where their store is…Oh, what the heck am I doing? I’m more interested in coming back to shop than finding out how they make revenue. Mama said the store has been there for years, and she laughed when I started gushing about my shopping discovery.

I don’t count on their items lasting a lifetime, nor would I dare purchase their beauty products, such as nail polish and baby wipes (scary!). I did hoard on things I often misplace and easily use up, such as stationery and office supplies. It’s also a great place for event stylists and party organizers looking for affordable giveaways and disposable decors.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get better than the 99c Store (US), Dollar Joe’s (US), Japan Home Center (Philippines), and Vente Store (Philippines), the ₱10 Store kicked their arses in my book.

Hi, Verly. From Rosario, turn left at Manila-Cavite Road, then keep heading straight ’til you get to the palengke area of P. Burgos, Cavite City. You may click on the map above for a more detailed view. Thanks!
