Want a Cameo Role in Wicked?

Wicked gets additional points in my book for giving back to the Filipinos. The cast and crew of the Australian touring production have decided to stage an extra performance of their Manila run to benefit the victims of last year’s Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan).

Proceeds of the January 31, 1:30 p.m. show will go to a relief fund for the residents of Tacloban and other areas devastated by the typhoon. “All of us, whether [a Wicked production] in America or Australia or the UK, were devastated by the news that came out from the Philippines in recent weeks with the awful typhoon,” said James Cundall, CEO of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, one of the companies behind the Manila staging of Wicked.

Attendees of the January 31 show will also learn about the mechanics of the Wicked Yolanda charity auction. Two of the many things that will be auctioned off are: a “Defying Gravity” music sheet with the autograph of lyricist Stephen Schwartz, and a walk-in role in one of the performances of Wicked, complete with rehearsals, makeup, and costume.

“All the proceeds go to a fund, together with the Wicked company all around the world who will be donating their royalties,” added Cundall.
