Rolo Pretzels for the Culinary Challenged
There are chefs and kitchen whizes like my sister Karen. Then there are people like me who prefer to whip up 30-minute meals and the ever reliable pasta dish.
I experienced my first real all-American Thanksgiving feast in Michigan two days ago, thanks to my foster family, The Schmidts. Thanksgiving in March? Why not!
With everyone in the kitchen was busy prepping the turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes and other slow-cook meals, I was in charge of the easy tasks, including preparing appetizers.
The recipe: Rolo Pretzel Delights, an easy recipe concocted by Hershey’s Kitchens. Sure, any 12-year-old could make these easy treats, but I was proud of my sweet handiwork and would like to share with you the simple steps.
Step 1: Gather the ingredients: mini pretzels (try Rold Gold or Snyder’s), pecan halves, and Hershey’s Rolo Chewy Caramels in Milk Chocolate.
Step 2: Heat your oven to 350°F or 175°C. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil.
Step 3: Line as many pretzels as you’d like on the sheet.
Step 4: Top each pretzel with one unwrapped Rolo Chewy Caramel in Milk Chocolate.
Step 5: Bake for 3 to 5 minutes or until the caramel pieces begin to soften, but not melt. If the chocolate looks shiny, then it’s ready.
Step 6: Remove from the oven. Top each Rolo with a pecan half and gently press down. Wait for the Rolos to cool down before serving.
If you don’t like caramel, try Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Kisses.
Try other nuts such as pistachios, walnuts, or cashews.
If you don’t have an oven, you may use a microwave. Line a microwave-safe plate with wax paper and microwave at medium for 30 seconds or until the caramel has slightly softened.
