Quirk of the Month: kikki.K Travel Collection

Filipina blogger Chuvaness uses the term “wasteland” to refer to shops that sell stationery and other cute items you don’t really need. Guilty beyond reasonable doubt! I lost count of the times I told myself, “Kate, you don’t need another cute pen or notepad!” only to find myself hoarding them after entering a shop like Muji, Papemelroti, and Landmark’s novelty section.

Aside from the stores mentioned above, another favorite of mine is kikki.K. They don’t have it in the Philippines yet, so when I visited Singapore a few weeks ago, a stop at Ion Orchard’s kikki.K was on my itinerary.

You had me at “Put down the map and get wonderfully lost.”

After browsing the store for an hour, I purchased items from their latest travel collection. So what if I already have a lot of notebooks, pens, and travel organizers? The crazy thing about wastelands is that they make you believe you need another one of those cute things to add to your growing hoard of other cute things at home.

Left column: 3-piece travel notebook, SG$12.9; Right column: plastic pouches, SG$12.9 for a set of 2; Middle: Everyday ballpoint pen, SG$4.9. All from Kikki K’s “Adventure Awaits” travel collection.

Deep in the depths of my soul, I truly believe I need these in my life.

What’s your favorite wasteland shop?
