Sci-fi geeks have been waiting for this day for years. In the second installment of the Back to the Future trilogy, Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox), his girlfriend Jennifer Parker (Claudia Wells), and Dr. Emmett Lathrop “Doc” Brown (Christopher Lloyd) time-traveled to October 21, 2015 at 4:29 p.m. If you’re in Philippine time like I am, that’s in a few hours.
I bet your Facebook newsfeed is now filled with BTTF Day posts and memes. In my timeline, the best tribute I’ve seen is an album entitled, “This Is Our Future,” by married couple and my former officemates, Elijah and Joanna Mendoza.
The two dressed up as Marty and Jennifer, complete with a DeLorean DMC-12 that they borrowed from the Subic Bay Peninsular Hotel through their friend, BJ Ang. The props, such as the makeshift hoverboard and printed cover of the 1950-2000 Grays Sports Almanac—all theirs. They even got the cosplaying gear to a T, including what Elijah describes as “not-so-self-lacing shoes.” The photographer? “Galing kumuha nung tripod, no?” Elijah joked. (Rough translation: “The tripod took great photos, huh?”)
“My wife and I dressed up as Marty and Jennifer McFly for Back to the Future Day (October 21, 2015),” Elijah captioned. “We rarely ‘ham’ for the cam, but for this we made an exception.” Their two boys, Paolo and Milo, joined in on the fun. You have cool parents, boys.
“Now it’s actually 2015—we may not have flying cars and time machines (yet), but I think our future turned out way cooler than we expected,” Elijah said.
I wouldn’t be surprised if these photos end up on Buzzfeed.
