Jumping Gigawatts! It’s Marty McFly and Jennifer Parker

…Or two of their biggest fans here in Manila.

Sci-fi geeks have been waiting for this day for years. In the second installment of the Back to the Future trilogy, Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox), his girlfriend Jennifer Parker (Claudia Wells), and Dr. Emmett Lathrop “Doc” Brown (Christopher Lloyd) time-traveled to October 21, 2015 at 4:29 p.m. If you’re in Philippine time like I am, that’s in a few hours.

I bet your Facebook newsfeed is now filled with BTTF Day posts and memes. In my timeline, the best tribute I’ve seen is an album entitled, “This Is Our Future,” by married couple and my former officemates, Elijah and Joanna Mendoza.

BTTF8

Elijah and Joanna were my former officemates in Summit Media in 2006. I met them back when Elijah was an editor at T3 Magazine, and Joanna and I were editors at OK! Magazine.

The two dressed up as Marty and Jennifer, complete with a DeLorean DMC-12 that they borrowed from the Subic Bay Peninsular Hotel through their friend, BJ Ang. The props, such as the makeshift hoverboard and printed cover of the 1950-2000 Grays Sports Almanac—all theirs. They even got the cosplaying gear to a T, including what Elijah describes as “not-so-self-lacing shoes.” The photographer? “Galing kumuha nung tripod, no?” Elijah joked. (Rough translation: “The tripod took great photos, huh?”)

Where's Doc when you need him?

"Our humble Back to the Future collection," said Elijah. "Hope our kids will appreciate these when they grow up."

“My wife and I dressed up as Marty and Jennifer McFly for Back to the Future Day (October 21, 2015),” Elijah captioned. “We rarely ‘ham’ for the cam, but for this we made an exception.” Their two boys, Paolo and Milo, joined in on the fun. You have cool parents, boys.

Yes, that's a DeLorean DMC-12, a.k.a. the DeLorean time machine.

Elijah designed and printed his own "Grays Sports Almanac 1950-2000" for full effect.

“Now it’s actually 2015—we may not have flying cars and time machines (yet), but I think our future turned out way cooler than we expected,” Elijah said.

I wouldn’t be surprised if these photos end up on Buzzfeed.

What a cool article of a cool movie and a cool couple to complete the coolness-factor! It’s Oct. 21, 2015 and it’s 4:15pm in the USA—-can’t believe that I’ll be just in time to toast Marty’s future with a glass of old-fashioned red wine! Despite the fact that years ago, I promised my young sons Ramon and Anton, that should hover-boards ever be sold to the the Philippines market, I’d be first in line. Well, I know someone who may not ever have a hover-board, but who soars the heavens and is eternally young. Anyway, thanks for this fun article. The future is here! Wow!

  3. Wow, super cool, lalo na yung car. 😀 Super ma-effort yan ha. 🙂 I really hope they would be featured, they deserve it. I like Elijah’s shoes too
