Summer’s Here. Time To Hoard These Skincare Essentials

In the Philippines, summer begins in late March. If you have sensitive skin, expect skin issues to flare up with the change of weather. If you’re a visitor from a four-season country, you may experience breakouts as soon as you step into our tropical waters. Records show that the temperature in Manila has gone up to 35°C (95°F) the past few days, so it’s high time we switch to summer-friendly beauty products. Here’s a peek into my stash.

Water-based skincare

Rich creams and oil-laden skincare will feel icky on your skin, so temporarily use water-based skincare for the next eight weeks. It’s lightweight and your skin absorbs it faster.

L-R: Bifesta Cleansing Lotion, ₱419 (300ml), Céleteque Hydration Facial Moisturizer, ₱210 (100ml), Nuxe Micellar Cleansing Water With Rose Petals, ₱895 (200ml), and Kracie Natululu Skin Conditioner with Tomato Extract, ₱495 (500ml)

SPF for every part of the body

When I say every part of the body, I mean from the hair on my head to the edge of my toes. I started showing signs of melasma years ago, so my dermatologist advised that I slather on SPF daily. When I’m traveling, I go for tinted SPFs for a semi-makeup look or regular SPFs of at least 50.

L-R: Beach Hut Max Clear Sunblock Spray 75++SPF, Beach Hut Hair and Scalp SPF 20, Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50++, ₱420, and L’Oréal UV Perfect Even Complexion SPF 50, ₱445

Wide brim hat

A strong SPF isn’t enough to protect your face from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. When I’m at the beach, I always bring a wide brim hat to shield both my face and hair from sun damage. There are plenty of fashionable options that won’t make you look too touristy.

I got this hat for free from Watson's. This month's promo gets you a free hat for every ₱1,400 single-receipt purchase that includes at least one of their Gotta-Have-It item.

Midday hydration

A makeup trick I learned from professional makeup artists is to apply facial mist (or as my friends would joke, “expensive water for the face”) before applying makeup and to hydrate my made-up face in the middle of the day. I bring a bottle of vitamin-enriched water mist whenever I travel or during TV commercial shoots. If you’re hitting the beach, slather on some cooling gel after sunbathing—even if you didn’t get sunburned.

L-R: Bioderma Sensibio Dermatological Water for Sensitive Skin, ₱858 (150ml), L’Occitane Immortelle Essential Face Water, ₱1,500 (200ml), and Céleteque Skin Relief After-Sun Gel, ₱268 (200ml)

Makeup primers

At the peak of summer, your makeup is guaranteed to smudge and melt within minutes of applying or sweating. To make sure everything stays put for as long as possible, invest in primers.

L-R: Revlon PhotoReady Prime + Anti Shine in 010 Clear Transparent, Benefit The POREfessional Face Primer, ₱1,600, and Benefit Stay Don’t Stray Primer for Eyeshadow and Concealers, ₱1,400

Hello! ❤ I’m a new subscriber. ? Pwede naman magtagalog diba? ? Magtaglish na lang ako para mas madami akong mashare haha. Celeteque Hydration Moisturizer is also one of my summer essential. Sobrang lightweight nya sa face. Other summer essential ko yung Sooper Beaute Wonder Cream Day Cream, ginagamit ko sya kahit yun lang kasi nagiiwan sya ng powdery veil kaya parang nagpulbos na din, tska it has spf 20 kaya perfect for summer. ? Sa body ko naman wala akong ginagamit kasi medyo namamahalan kasi ako, kaya nagwhiwhitening lotion nalang ako tuwing gabi. Then ang ginagamit kong makeup primer ung quickfx mattifier. 🙂

I’ve been using Celeteque for years. Summer or not, I make sure my face is hydrated. They have really good products. 🙂 As for some of my summer essentials, I make sure to bring umbrella, water and my favorite Burt’s Bees Lip Balm everywhere I go. About the SPFs, I am currently using Daylong.
I don’t really use a primer but I’ll take your suggestion since my makeup melts just a few minutes after application. It’s that hot in our country right now.

Well for me, everything that has SPF 15+++ from lips to face, ( Burts bees& olay) don’t forget the ears ladies! hair serum that contains SPF tooI (mane and tail serum) and for the rest of the body. ( Nivea firming body serum with SPF) If you are in the beach, then its a must to reapply every 2hours with a good sunscreen spray (Nivea spray, the yellow nozzle) and wait 30minutes for the skin to absorb???. And before bedtime after a nice shower I just use Neutrogena body oil to regain moisture and suppleness of skin.

BTW, love the retro vibe from the looks of your blog Ms Kate! It’s my new found blog to love!!!????

Heard that evian face mist is way better than other face mist if you want to remove harmful chlorinated water or even saltwater after swimming. Been looking everywhere all they have is avene wc i find super duper pricey!

Mantra ko tuwing summer hydrate, hydrate and always bring an umbrella. Whenever nakakalimutan ko yung umbrella may baon akong pamaypay na malaki or sun hat. I tried bifesta, spf should be 15 pataas sa sun block. I have not tried yung face mist pero I’m going to consider the products na listed dito. I have to agree dun sa primer as madaling malusaw ang make up sa init
