Last-Minute Halloween Ideas

On the topic of Halloween costumes, my good friend Char once told me, “There’s always something in your closet. Just be creative.” My family loves costume parties, so we have boxes of costumes at home. I also have a treasure trove of accessories and retro clothes that I refuse to throw away, because I always end up using them for photo shoots and parties. Add that to my collection of makeup, and dress-up is always fun in my place.

I didn’t have the time or budget to prepare for Halloween this year, so I experimented with three looks using what I already have.

1. Elphaba of Wicked

Products used:
L’Oréal Revitalift Day Cream with SPF 23 as my base
L’Oréal Revitalift Laser X3 Anti-Aging Transforming Eye Cream
Generic foundation brush, soaked in water to help apply the green makeup
shu uemura Eyeshadow. I used a moss green shade and applied generously all over my face and neck.
MAC Eyeshadow in Carbon Matte to contour the nose, fill in eyebrows, and line my rims
Revlon Superlustrous Lipstick in Foxy Lady
Witch costume from SM Department Store

2. Psychotic doll

Products used:
White face makeup from National Bookstore. I bought it for less than ₱100, and it’s safe even for kids.
Generic foundation brush, soaked in water to help apply sticky white makeup
Estée Lauder Eyeshadow Compact. I used the white shade to fill up my eyelids and undereye area.
Revlon Volume +Length Magnified Mascara. My regular liquid eyeliner didn’t work well on my pasty white base, so I scraped lots of black mascara on a plastic palette, and used an eyeliner brush to draw the exaggerated lashes and facial stiches.
MAC Eyeshadow in Carbon Matte to darken eyelids and fill up eyebrows
shu uemura Cream Eyeshadow in M Red to draw the fake blood and wounds
Pixy Silky Fit Lipstick in Red Chili. To create the doll pout, I filled in my lips with white makeup first before doing the narrow pout.
Wig from Divisoria

3. Foxy lady

Products used:
Céleteque DermoCosmetics 24-Hour Photoready Liquid Foundation
MAC Eyeshadow in Carbon Matte to fill in eyebrows and create smokey, lined eyes
Revlon Volume +Length Magnified Mascara. I scraped black mascara on a plastic palette, and used an eyeliner brush to draw the heart-shaped nose and whisker dots.
Revlon Matte Balm in Fierce Redoutable for the lips
Fox plush hat from Korea

Help me choose one among the three, dear readers! Let me know what your vote is and I’ll use it for Halloween tomorrow.

All of them are great but my most favorite would be Elphaba!

  2. Foxy Lady is the bomb! I know it’s too late to help you decide what you’d be for Halloween, it’s just that I really love how creative you are, Kate! I hope to meet you soon! <3 -Jini
