My Space: Kawit Cavite’s New Secret Coffee Shop

When it comes to coffee shops, I look for four key requirements—affordable drinks and grub, no crowd, easy parking, and a friendly staff that won’t give you the stink eye when you’ve stayed for over two hours. It’s challenging for freelancers like myself to find this ideal setting.

I discovered a new secret coffee shop that fits the bill. Best of all, it’s in my hometown.

Location: Kawit, Cavite

If you pass by Centennial Road in Kawit, Cavite regularly, you won’t easily notice Port Coffee Co. It’s in Juan Stop Shop, where you’ll find other businesses like Nerison’s Cassava Cake, Mojo Automotive Shop, Clean Access Car Wash and Auto Detailing, Jamaire, and RCA.

Who’d think that hidden in this container van architecture is a quaint coffee shop begging to be Instagrammed? Port Coffee Co. opened just this month, and I almost did not want to share this secret.

Inside this container van is a secret café.

I finally sampled their menu last week. What I had: café mocha, ₱120, and chicken parmigiana over herbed rice, ₱140, which is their bestseller so far.

Other items on the menu: standard iced and hot coffee drinks ranging from ₱60-140, frappes for ₱140-160, and if you’re not a coffee drinker (blasphemy!)—sodas and bottled iced tea. As for the food, they have plated rice meals, appetizers, sandwiches, and pasta dishes—nothing over ₱150. What a deal!

Café mocha, ₱120. No, you may not take the cute plants home, but you may take as many photos as you please.

It’s too bad they don’t serve desserts yet, but I’m sure they’ll roll out a bigger selection as the months go by.

The wooden signs covering the main wall will have you reaching for your phone and clicking your Instagram app faster than you can say, “Salted caramel frappe!”

Check out the wall of wooden signs on the right.

They maximized the tight space by placing the coffee bar and kitchen at the corner, while six wooden tables are spread out. Tip: The corner table by the window is the best spot!

Drop by if you’re stuck in traffic along Centennial Road come dinnertime, if you’re looking for a place to get your car fixed while having a java break, or if, like me, you’re looking for a new hush-hush coffee joint to spend your afternoons in.

Port Coffee Co. is located at Centennial Road, Kawit, Cavite, Philippines. Open from Tuesdays to Sundays at 1-9 p.m.
