This year I’ve been more conscientious about the beauty brands I support. Are they eco-friendly or at least taking greener steps? Are they travel-friendly since I am always on the go? Can they withstand the Philippines’ humid weather? Here’s a roundup of the products that made my summer checklist.
Let’s take a closer look at each one:
Human Heart Nature Safe Protect SPF30 Sunscreen, ₱299.75 (200g). Reality check: Majority of sunblock brands are killing our corals! But there is hope. A growing number of eco-friendly brands have coral-safe SPF, like this one from Human Heart Nature. To know more about this issue, read my article here.
Generation Happy Skin ACTIVE. I’m always on the lookout for workout- and travel-friendly makeup. Yes, I dab a little lippie and blush when hiking a mountain—ain’t no shame! Happy Skin recently collaborated with actress Kathryn Bernardo to come up with this limited-edition collection. My favorites from the loot: Love Your Lips Intense Color Butter Balm in Bliss, ₱346, Simply Defined Budge-Proof Gel Eyeliner, ₱399, and My Lips But Better Ultra Matte Lippie in Energy, ₱399.
Bonny Hill Mask, ₱65. Sheet masks are a vital part of my beauty regimen. Pro tip: On a warm summer night, pop it in the fridge for an hour or so before putting it on your face for a cooling spa treatment. Spread the remaining essence all over your neck, decolletage, and hands for a deep moisturizing treatment.
Kamillosan Spray, ₱400+. I learned about this spray from my theater actor friends who use it to cure their sore throats after intense rehearsals and performances. It has seven natural ingredients—chamomile extract, peppermint, sage, dwarf pine needle, bergamot, cineol, and anise.
Human Heart Nature Cooling Body Cleanser, ₱199.75 (200ml). This April, Manila’s heat index reached 40ºC, while provinces like Pangasinan reached 51.7ºC. Like everyone else, I’ve been scrambling for ways to deal with the unbearable heat. On top of constant hydration, I’ve also turned to cooling beauty products, like this body cleanser with mind and other skin-cooling ingredients.
Andalou Naturals Exotic Marula Oil Silky Smooth Taming Crème, ₱445 (200ml). I thought I knew all there is to know about caring for my curls. Turns out there is still so much to learn. Thanks to Curly Girls Philippines (click here for my Cosmo interview with their founder), I’ve been hoarding CGM (curly girl method) hair products. Andalou Taming Creme is one that got their seal of approval.
Sephora Mixology, ₱2,009. This eyeshadow palette features 18 warm and bronzy shades that are perfect for summer. Tip: You may even use some shades as cheek bronzer.
Manual fan. I got this as a gift (Thanks, Liane!). It makes a kawaii alternative to the pamaypay (traditional fan), but you may get a sore thumb after an hour. Available in Shopee. Designs and prices vary.
