Kickstarting My New Year with L’Oréal

Remember when I shared that I’m embracing my word of the year? It looks like I’m off to a good start. BDJ Box ushered in the New Year with their first beauty soiree, “Kickstart Your New Look With L’Oréal Paris” at The Blackboard, Podium Mall. With my fellow bloggers Valerie Tan of Miss Valerie Tan and Kristine Roces of Real Asian Beauty, I had front row access to beauty workshops all afternoon.

Makeup artist Aiky Nar gave us a peek into his stash.

We started with L’Oréal Philippines’ Matrix Education Manager Wee Manansala’s Hair Color 101 workshop, where she gave us tips on how to color your hair, whether you’re going DIY at home or enlisting the help of a professional colorist.

I’ve been having my hair colored for years (thank you, Juro Salon!), but would you believe I’ve never tried coloring my hair on my own? When I do, it’s usually with the help of my mom, but I’ve never tried doing it alone. L’Oréal gave us a loot bag of hair products, including a L’Oréal Paris Excellence Crème, which means I will finally dare color my hair on my own with this DIY kit. Video coming soon!

The second workshop was with Aiky Nar, winner of reality TV show, Mega Fashion Crew 3. He demonstrated five wearable hair-and-makeup looks, and I was his model for the “modern femininity” look, a refreshing break from my usual bold lips and cat eye. He toned down my look with natural eyeshadow and a soft, pink lip. For my hair, he brushed my signature curls into a low bun.

Check out the four other looks he tried on my fellow BDJ girls that day:

The look: Age of Innocence
The look: Youth Code
The look: Evening Ease
The look: Working Chic

I also bonded with the two winners of my ticket giveaway, Loisa and Joey, and met one of my subscribers, Rhen. Hello, girls! Hope you had fun that day.

At the end of the workshop, the girls had a chance to raid L’Oréal’s vanity sets to help them try out the different looks Aiky demonstrated. There was a sweet L’Oreal bag and makeup set in store for the girl who came up with the best look that afternoon. Congratulations to Nica!
