[Vlog] NDSM Is Amsterdam’s Shipyard-Turned-Creative Space

From the roaring 20s to the retro 80s, the NDSM neighborhood was one the biggest shipyards in the world. These days, you can always count on artists to turn rusting, abandoned locations into thriving cultural spaces, which is exactly what they did with NDSM.

Whatever time of day you arrive, there are plenty of things to do. NDSM was the first place that stood out in my 30-day Euro backpacking trip, so here’s a quickie vlog I made:

When you’re done watching the video, scroll through some photographs I took using my brand new camera that I invested in before this backpacking trip—a Fujifilm XT100.

Kate was here in NDSM, Amsterdam Noord.
Entrance to Pllek, a resto-bar with a man-made beachfront.

Sexyland Club, where every night feels different

IJ-hallen hosts regular events, like a monthly flea market. It was quiet during my visit.
Crane Hotel Faralda, the weirdest and most expensive hotel in Amsterdam.

It was a cold and windy weekday in Amsterdam Noord when I shot this video. I had this spot all to myself.

If you find yourself in Amsterdam Noord and you need a bit of artsy inspiration, make a pit stop at NDSM.

Location: NDSM-Plein 28, 1033 WB Amsterdam, Netherlands. Click here for a free map and guide.

  1. That place is really cute and very artsy, can’t actually believe thats a shipyard because the place is just simply amazing. And yes yes YES! its very instagrammable! I also want to have a picture there. 😊😍 I love those wall arts that were very colorful and its what gives the place life. Very interesting! “If” one day, ill be able to visit Amsterdam I will make sure to include that place in my itinerary, coz art would always have a place in my heart……. and my instagram feed! Hahaha
