Mural Hunting in Kuala Lumpur

Looking for free things to do in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia? Add mural hunting to your list. Their modern art scene is thriving with pops of street art all over the city, bringing life to otherwise dilapidated walls, shophouses, and alleys. The muse of these Malaysian artists? Their multicultural heritage. You’ll notice that these wall-to-wall works of art pay tribute to Malaysian history and culture. Some are interactive; you’re more than welcome to pose like you’re part of the mural and post away on Instagram.

This is by no means a definite guide to all the murals in KL, as I was there for only a few days for a press trip. Our hosts focused on their top destinations, so it was a pleasant surprise to notice the murals almost everywhere.

Check out some that caught my eye.

If you’re looking for famous street art in and around KL, just google “Malaysian street art” and you’ll have dozens of listicles to guide you. Better yet, just walk around the city. Even if you’re not consciously looking for them, you’re bound to run into KL’s growing number of murals. You may even come across the more secret and hidden street art.
